GCP-Account Integration User Guide

This guide provides instructions on how to use the new account onboarding feature to integrate a GCP account with the Lucidity AutoScaler product.

Onboarding Process

  1. Access the account onboarding page from the ‘Accounts’ menu through the left nav.

  2. Click on the ‘Add Account’ button next to GCP.

  3. Select the product(s) that you want to grant access permissions to.

  4. You can review the permissions that are needed by Lucidity depending on the product selection in the prior step.

  5. Once you have reviewed the permissions, click on the ‘Sign in with Google’ button to authenticate with Google Cloud.

  6. To provide access to Lucidity AutoScaler, we need to create a role and attach the new role to the service account. Typically, this needs ‘Owner’ access to the project(s) in question.

  7. Once the GCP authentication is successful, you will be shown a list of available projects you have ownership of. You can choose to link either all or a subset of the listed projects.

  8. Click on ‘Submit’ to begin linking the GCP account.

  9. Track Progress of the ongoing GCP account integration in the next screen.

Backend Operations: Upon clicking 'Submit', several backend processes are initiated to ensure secure and effective integration of your GCP account with Lucidity services:

  1. Creation of New Custom Role:

    1. Depending on the selected services (AutoScaler, Assessment, or both), one or two custom roles are created. These roles define the permissions required by Lucidity to manage and monitor your GCP resources effectively.

      Note

If both Assessment and AutoScaler are chosen, two distinct roles are created to accommodate the specific permissions needed for each service.

  2. Assigning the Custom Role to the Service Account :

    1. The newly custom role(s) across one or more GCP projects are linked to the Service Accounts. This ensures that Lucidity has the appropriate level of access to perform its operations.

  1. Once the GCP account is linked successfully, you can click ‘Finish’ and head to the Onboard page to install the Lucidity agent on your VMs.

    1. Select a GCP project from the second dropdown.

    2. Select the region where your GCP VM instance lives.

    3. Finally, select the zone where the GCP VM instance is running and proceed to install the Lucidity agent.

  2. After successfully installing the Lucidity agent on your VMs, the volumes attached to those VMs should be visible in the Unmanaged VMs table on the Scaler page. Onboard these volumes to see Lucidity’s AutoScaler in action!

  3. On successfully onboarding volumes on to AutoScaler, the onboarded volumes should be visible in the Managed VMs table.

  4. Click on a volume in the Managed VMs table for a deep dive into more details about the volume, the instance and, the shrink and expand operations executed on the volume.

  5. Head to the dashboard to monitor your block storage metrics after successfully onboarding your disks on the AutoScaler.
